Without a valid will, your estate is divided according to a fixed legal formula that may not reflect what you want. A will lets you decide who inherits, who looks after your children and who administers your estate.

We take the time to understand your family and assets, advise on the options and draft a will that meets every legal formality, so it does not fail when it matters.

Frequently asked questions.

What makes a will valid in South Africa?+
A will must be in writing, signed by the testator on every page and at the end, and signed in the presence of two competent witnesses aged 14 or older, who also sign. A witness, or their spouse, should not inherit under the will.
What happens if I die without a will?+
Your estate is distributed under the Intestate Succession Act, which decides who inherits based on your family relationships. It may not match your wishes, and the process is usually slower for your family.
Should I update my will after a divorce?+
Yes. Marriage, divorce, the birth of children and major changes in your assets are all reasons to review your will. We recommend checking it every few years in any event.
Can I appoint a guardian for my children?+
Yes. You can nominate a guardian in your will for minor children, which is one of the most important reasons for parents to have a will.
Where should I keep my will?+
Keep the signed original in a safe place where your family or executor can find it, and tell them where it is. We can keep the original in safe custody for you.
